About me

I am a writer, teacher and communications specialist. Over the past 20 years, I’ve written for many organisations (big, small and in-between) in the private, public and charity sectors. This has included NHS Trusts, universities, fitness companies, energy providers, IT companies, national charities such as Epilepsy Action, and smaller charities such as Wakefield District Sight Aid. I’ve worked with small-business owners including management and HR consultants, beauty therapists, artists and writers.

As well as copywriting, I also write journalism, fiction and creative nonfiction. My work has been published online and in print publications including Writing Magazine, Mslexia, the Yorkshire Post, Athletics Weekly, Ultra Fit and Great North Run magazine.

My first book, Cake, anyone? Scenes from everyday life in extraordinary times, is out now.

I have an MA in Writing from Sheffield Hallam University, degrees in journalism (2001) and English literature (2017), and diplomas in marketing (CIM) and management (CMI).

I live in Yorkshire with my husband and our various pets. Writing and reading are a huge part of my life. There’s nothing I like more than curling up with a good book, a brew, and a slice of cake.

To balance the cake consumption, I run.

I’ve taken part in races from 3000m to marathon and am most proud of my fourth-place finish (with the Barnsley AC women’s team) at the British Masters Road Relay Championships. I’ve won Yorkshire Veteran Championship medals for 5-miles, 10-miles and 10k distances. I’m a qualified running coach and write a running blog, Champion Running.

You’ve probably worked out that I’m a keen runner, but I’m also a sometime saxophone player, all the time horse rider and auntie to my eight-year-old niece.

I’d love to connect. Send me an email ( or find me on social media.
